This radio short about Pink Gravel was created by the Emporia Community Foundation and aired by KVOE in the month of October 2023.
Breast Cancer - is one of the most common cancers that affects women and people assigned female at birth (AFAB). Men are not excluded from this diagnosis. The most common risk factors associated with male breast cancer are age, exposure to higher levels of the hormone estrogen relative to the male hormone androgen, radiation, and a family history of female or male breast cancer. Breast cancer happens when cancerous cells in your breasts multiply and become tumors. About 80% of breast cancer cases are invasive, meaning a tumor may spread from your breast to other areas of your body.
This disease has made it's mark in our family; hence, why a fund targeting breast cancer is important to us. I (Amy) chose to share the picture above as it marked a moment during my treatments that an activity helped me feel normal . . . and it also shows the positive attitude I tried to maintain for myself and my family. *smile* At that moment, all I had done was roll up a couple rows of cut sod, but dang did it feel good. And yes, I was totally exhausted shortly after, but it was worth it.
The Pink Gravel Fund hopes these grants offer some relief, some comfort, or provide a goal to attain a positive moment in the midst of a life changing diagnosis.
From October 1 to December 31, 2023, $2000.00 is available. Applicants may ask for up to $500.00.
