SO WHAT IS PINK GRAVEL? To get straight to the point, PINK GRAVEL is my cancer brain child. It came to me during a trail walk just after my second chemo treatment. Just months ago, I was riding miles of gravel; and now, this little walk was kicking my butt. I was so frustrated about how it took so much effort just to walk a couple miles. My doctor told me I would be fatigued and that a walk around the block would be a reasonable goal. I shouldn't be so hard on myself. But like many, I am indeed hardest on my self and didn't want to accept my physical weakness. I cried and began to think about how it would make other activities suffer. Just how long it would take to just get "back to normal"? I would forever be affected by breast cancer and it's treatments. Through my tears I laughed about how my world turned pink. Ugh, and biking is going to be such a chore to get back to where I can ride miles on my own. I will have to slow ride my pink miles. Pink miles on pink gravel from now on. Hummm . . . kinda catchy.
WHAT IS PINK GRAVEL'S PURPOSE? To promote breast cancer awareness among the active and encourage physical activity while spreading positive vibes! Thru this website, the Facebook page, volunteering and hosting of small events, Pink Gravel wants to help people affected by breast cancer (or any cancer) find the motivation and learn that small goals are acceptable. Cancer is not just physically hard; it is a mental game for the one fighting as well as their immediate loved ones. It took a lot for me to realize that what little I did was still impressive given my circumstances. With Pink Gravel, I hope to help others take control of their mind game and appreciate the victories gained in small increments.
WHAT DOES PINK GRAVEL DO? Currently, the Pink Gravel crew assists and /or provides S.A.G (support and gear) for a variety of grassroots gravel biking events. Thru volunteering, we shall spread positive vibes! Pink Gravel promotes an atmosphere of relaxed fun thru activities it hosts. Pink Gravel hosts a variety of small events from a 2 mile walk to a 50k bike ride in the fall. These events help spread awareness among the active and encourage community involvement and support of the Pink Gravel cause. While Pink Gravel is not a non-profit organization, the money raised through the events it hosts and swag it sells will be put into an account designated for Pink Gravel sponsorships. These Pink Gravel sponsorships are for cancer survivors (or a member of their support system) preparing to compete in an outdoor walk/run/ride event. A sponsorship will include help with registration fees, Pink Gravel race day tank or shirt and the support of the Pink Gravel Crew during their preparation.

about the 1st evening after chemo and you stayed up all night playing Hay Day, went to work all jacked up only to be sent away when you finally came down from your chemo high.
